In-house Tournaments - Included in Ladies Club Levy

Hi Ladies - Another benefit of being a Ladies Club member is there is no entry fee to participate in the various club tournaments held during the season, some of which have been held for many years with lots of club history.  As a result of feedback from a previous year's survey, we have decided to offer two categories for participants to choose from when signing up for our club events as listed below:

  • Competitive with "Handicap" - Players must have an established Golf Canada handicap. Green fee players are welcome if they are members of the Ladies Club and have an established handicap.  The tournaments below are stroke play.  Gross and net scores are used to determine winners.  WHS rules apply.
  • "Fun Only" - players do NOT require an established handicap, but if you have one and prefer a non-competitive game, this option is for you.  No pressure to keep score, with a chance to socialize and enjoy dinner, etc.  Friends can request to golf together if in this category.

Both groups of players will have a chance to win door prizes, social draw, etc. however only the "handicap" players will be eligible for gross and net prizes and trophies.  If numbers warrant, the "fun only" players will have a chance to win a prize by draw.  We hope to get a big turnout in both categories this season! All dinners must be pre-paid before the deadline (by check in the provided envelope, or by cash or e-transfer to bbladiesclub@gmail.com).

In-house tournaments include:

  • Ollie's Best Ball - The format for this event is a Two Person Best Ball competition, based on net scores.  Partners are paired randomly from two groups (low and high handicaps).  Ollie Shultz loved this format and in 2014, her daughter Sharon Noakes decided to sponsor this event in her mom's name, and, it's proved to be a fun event. Sharon lost her battle with cancer in November 2021, but the event will continue for many more years as Sharon had paid the sponsorship in advance.
  • Blaylock Bowl Club Championship - This event is open to Birchbank members only and is a 2-day stroke play event to determine the Club Champion.  This tournament event has taken place more than 100 years! As time passed, other family members added trophies - The Francis Lauriente Rose Bowl for least putts started in 1975, and the Elsie Buchanan Memorial for Low Net in 1978! Every year we hope to have family representation to hand out trophies.
  • Kay Buna Memorial Eclectic Tournament - This event, is a 2-day stroke play where players attempt to better their scores from Saturday on Sunday.  The winner is the player having the best net 18 holes out of 36 holes.  (The best net score for each hole over a 2-day period is used).  The memorial event started in 1988 and has always had many Buna family members participate and present the trophy.
