2024 Eclectic Tournament

2024 - 36th Kay Buna Memorial Eclectic tournament held September 7th and 8th

We had 27 golfers compete, plus two additional ladies golfed on Sunday. The weather was perfect and the competition was close on many flights. Dana Haas, Karen Hubert, and Barb Secco joined us for dinner along with several Buna family members who also golfed after the ladies. The Bistro served a delicious ham and scalloped potato dinner. Saturday would have been Kay's 99th birthday and Ilo Shubert made lovely birthday gift bag floral centerpieces to mark the occasion. We sang happy birthday to Carmela Livolsi whose birthday was on Sunday.

Saturday net results had Gerianne Hanik with a 69, followed by Liz George with a 71, and Jeri Santarossa with a 72 and they were the final group on Sunday. Gerianne improved several holes to maintain the lead and won the Eclectic trophy with a 2-day eclectic net score of 61. Below is Gerianne being presented with the 2024 Keeper trophy by Lorne Buna, Gord Buna and Donna Buna. Gerianne's name will be engraved on the plaque Gord is holding.

2024 101st Blaylock Club Championship - August 10th and 11th

The number of competitors was down from past years, but the 20 golfers who competed in the tournament enjoyed nice weather, two great days of golf, a wonderful chicken cordon bleu dinner and lots of prizes. We were joined by representatives from the Blaylock and Buchanan family: Judy Davidson (S.G. Blaylock's granddaughter) and Janis Bower (Elsie Buchanan's daughter) who presented the trophies. Dana Haas also joined us for dinner and everyone was pleased to see how well she is recovering from her recent knee replacement. She'll be in fine form for 2025!

Although we missed the annual competition between Sophia Park and Terry Van Horn, Sophia golfed great over the weekend and was a deserving champion, winning the Blaylock Bowl for the 6th time with a two day overall low gross score of 166. The winner of the Elsie Buchanan plaque with the overall low net score of 138 (by retrogression) was Rhonda Baldwin. Rhonda broke 100 for the first time with a 99 on Saturday, so another milestone.

After all the prizes were awarded, everyone else received a Callaway golf ball - see the fun pictures below:

We are optimistic that next year, the 102nd Blaylock Bowl Club Championship will have a bigger field. We expect a number of our golfers who were out for various reasons this year will be back. And a little birdie told me Terry and Jim Van Horn will return as Birchbank members.  And with the increasing skill level of a number of our golfers we can expect a stronger competition for the champion. I hope those of us who would need a miracle to win will still consider taking part and join the fun! Until then….
